This article explores the subject of anxiety in leadership. Anxiety is often a challenging feeling and clearly also for leaders, as it influences decisions and interactions, sometimes unconsciously. Our article, which examines the relationship between rules and anxiety, aims to provide a perspective and contribute to the wider discussion on coaching and its role in managing anxiety and promoting a constructive working environment.
As HEC Montréal is a Canadian management journal, they insisted that we use the term ‘Gestion’, I mention this because it took me a while to accept it and I still think it sounds wrong. Nevertheless, I made this compromise, because without it, the article wouldn’t have been published. In any case, the article does reflect what has come out of a wider reflection and writing process that I have been engaged in over the last couple of years on the subject of ‘rules’ in leadership. In other words, in terms of each leader’s unique relationship with her rules and the way she feels when dealing with them.
